99 year old Wilma Corley Oakley of Alexandria died Friday [January 27, 2012] at NHC in Smithville. She was born in DeKalb County, the daughter of the late William Belva Corley and Lillie Frances Oakley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Burse Oakley; three brothers, George Corley, Alton Corley, and Billy Corley; and three sisters, Ruby Reynolds, Martha Corley, and Louise Vanatta. She was a member of the West Main Baptist Church in Alexandria. Oakley is survived by her daughter, June and husband David Lancaster of Gordonsville. Three grandchildren, Theresa and husband Ricky Sircy, Danice and husband Gary Whittemore, and Yvonne and husband Kerry Gibbs all of Gordonsville. Seven great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren, and sisters-in-law, Mary Etta and husband William Paul Griffith of Warren, Michigan and Ruth Corley of Temperance Hall. Oakley will be buried on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation with the Oakley family will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria. No visitation will be held on Sunday.
 D. W. "Dan" Evins, born 11 October 1935 to W.J. "Dub" Evins & Estelle McCartney Evins, passed peacefully with his family on January 14, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margarita, and his brother, E. W. "Eddie" Evins. He is survived by his brother, W.J. "Jack" Evins, sister, Myrtie Ann Evins Doak, his five children, Daina (Phillip) Warren, Meacham (LaDonna) Evins, Kate (Bob ) Page, Betsy (Bubba) Jennings, Joe Evins, and his thirteen grandchildren, Danny (Brooke) Warren, Will Warren, Mallory Jennings, Danny "Woody" Evins II, Sam Page, Madeline Jennings, Kathleen Evins, Maggie Page, Caroline Evins, Molly Jennings, Brian Evins, Merritt Jennings, and Donna Marie Evins. 84 year old Floy Louise Beshearse of Smithville died Wednesday [January 11, 2012] at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of the Mount Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church, a shirt factory worker, and a homemaker. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay and Euna Cantrell Magness; husband, Shirley Beshearse; a son, Wayne Beshearse; and brothers, Austin, Gene, John, Don, and Claborn Magness. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn and husband Bobby Reynolds of Smithville. A granddaughter, Andrea Beshearse of Hendersonville. Gladys Silva Odom Knowles of Smithville died Friday [January 7, 2012] at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law. She was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church and she attended Whorton Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Knowles was a school teacher for 44 years and she was a member of the DeKalb County Retired Teachers, FCE, Order of the Eastern Star #374, and she was a Sunday School Teacher for 40 years. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Dr. John Carpenter and David Mahan will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Knowles was preceded in death by her parents, Pascal Clyde (PC) Odom and Maude Gilreath Odom; step-mother, Garnet Tramel Odom; husband, L.D. 80 year old Frankie Hendrix Taylor of Dowelltown died Monday [January 2, 2012] at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Methodist and an employee of Kingston Timer. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Snow Hill Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Taylor; parents, Frank and Connie Pack Hendrix; a son, Donnie Taylor; a grandchild, Tabitha Young; a brother, George and his wife Wilma Hendrix; half brothers, Shelton (Shag) Hendrixson, Woodrow Hendrixson, Oliver (Man) Hendrix, Delton Hendrixson, and Loycee Hendrixson; and half sisters, Martha Fisher and Odean Arnold. 75 year old Betty Temple Reynolds Jones of Smithville died Saturday [December 31, 2011] at Alive Hospice at Skyline in Madison. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hastle Cope and Myrtle Cantrell Cope; two husbands, Hobson Reynolds and Bob Jones, and one sister, Maxine Briggs. Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne and husband Richard Williams of Dowelltown. A son, Jim and wife Marl Ann Reynolds of Hermitage. 62 year old Patricia Ann White of Dowelltown died Thursday [December 22, 2011] at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of D.A.R. 1812 and U.D.C.. She was also a retired registered nurse. At Patricia's request, her remains have been cremated and there will be a celebration of life service held in the near future at the Dowelltown United Methodist Church. The time and date will be announced later. She is survived by her parents, James H. and Ruth White of Dowelltown. Two brothers, Bobby and wife Sarah White of Alexandria and Stephen and wife Vicky White of Murfreesboro. Nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and husband Ryan Kleparek of Murfreesboro, James White of Dowelltown, Stephanie and husband Aaron Lawrence of Murfreesboro, John White of Baxter, Tamara White of Dowelltown, and Daniel and wife Caralee White of Smyrna. Great nieces and nephews, Kyra and Keva Kleparek, Logan and Carly Lawrence, and Taylor Ann White. An aunt, Lorraine and husband Richard Engel of Oak Ridge.  CUMMINGS, Gary Richard Age 73 of Nashville, passed away on December 14, 2011. Survived by loving wife of 23 years, Sonja Cummings; daughters, Kimberly C. Warden, Heather A. Cummings and Sunny (Scot) Arnold; grandchildren, Jeremiah Taylor, Trey Warden and Christian Warden; step-mother, Carol Cummings; sisters, Joyce (Buddy) Tanton and Deborah (Bob) Rochelle; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served his country as a fighter pilot as a young adult. Throughout his life, he was a man that valued his relationship with God, and that relationship reflected a life of integrity and compassion to all those who knew him. He loved without reserve and gave without hesitation. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at ten o'clock the morning of Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Woodlawn's Dignity Hall. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from five o'clock until eight o'clock this evening, and again, one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Athletic Dept. at Clemson University, an organization that was very dear to Gary's heart.
86 year old Ella Mae Harness of Smithville died Sunday [December 11, 2011] at her residence. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. (EST) at Jarnigans Chapel Baptist Church in Clinton, Tennessee. Eddie Bridges and Freddie Bean will officiate and burial will be in the Jarnigans Chapel Cemetery in Clinton. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. (EST) at the church in Clinton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Luther Harness; parents, William and Martha Brummett Huckaby; two sisters, Fannie Galbreath and Marie Bean; and two brothers, Walker and Ervin Huckaby. Survivors include seven sons, Levi Harness, Howard Harness of Smithville, Lynn Harness of Michigan, Curtis Harness of Smithville, Gary Harness of Michigan, Kenneth Harness of Smithville, and James Harness. 79 year old Ruby L. Montgomery Mantick of Zelienople, Pennsylvania died Saturday [December 3, 2011] at the Passavant Retirement Community (PRC) in Zellenople, Pennsylvania. A graveside service will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Hillview Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Haskell and Gladys Montgomery and a sister, Ruth Daniels. Survivors include her husband of almost 60 years, Edward Frank Mantick. Four children, Deborah Mantick of St. Simons Island, Georgia, Mark Mantick of Zelienople, Pennsylvania, Neal Mantick of Watertown, Massachusetts, and Karen Glatz of Jacksonville, Florida. Grandchildren, Sara and Taylor Mantick of Zelienople. Brothers, Ralph Montgomery of Alexandria, Jerry Montgomery of Dowelltown, Carl Montgomery of Temperance Hall, and Larry Mongtomery of Liberty. 91 year old Ethel Lee Crook of Lebanon died Friday [December 2, 2011] at the Pavilion in Lebanon. She was born in DeKalb County and was a homemaker. She attended Liberty High School and was a member of the Prosperity Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in the Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. 88 year old Robert Bratten Bailiff of Dowelltown died Tuesday [November 22, 2011] at NHC Healthcare Center. He was a member and deacon of the Dowelltown Baptist Church. Bailiff was also a factory worker, farmer, and former owner of the Dowelltown Cash Market. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale and Wayne Malone will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. 83 year old Jodean Adcock of McMinnville died Tuesday [November 8, 2011] at River Park Hospital. She was a member of the Sink Creek Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Keltonburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Dillard and Alma Luna Jaco; her husband, Albert Haston Adcock; and a sister, Helen Judkins. Funeral services for Alonzo Farmer Bailiff, 90, will be held at one o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 9 [1961]. The Rev. Floyd Hooper, Grady Crook and Hubert Nixon will conduct the services at Snow Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Snow Hill Baptist Cemetery. The body will remain at the Walker Funeral Home until time of services. Mr. Bailiff died Tuesday [March 7, 1961] after an extended illness at his home in the 24th district of Dekalb County. A native of this county, he was the son of the late James Monroe and Eliza Jane Foster Bailiff. He was a farmer of the Dry Creek community, and a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Netter Bailiff; a son, Paul Bailiff of Smithville; four daughters, Mrs. Lola Elledge of Hendersonville, Tenn., Mrs Lillus Taylor and Mrs. Gladys Robinson of Detroit, Michigan, and Mrs. Alma Hale of Dowelltown; two brothers, Dee and Theo Bailiff of Dowelltown; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Katherine Tumblin Bailiff, 95, longtime resident of Birmingham, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus Christ, her savior on Monday afternoon [September 19, 2011] after a lengthy illness at her "second" home in Chattanooga, TN. Following a private graveside service, she will be laid to rest beside her sweetheart of 67 years, Carlos Bailiff in the family plot at Myrtle Hills Cemetery in Tampa, FL. Her family continues to be grateful for all the visits, cards, and calls these last 7 years from her many dear friends in the Magic City. 89 year old Louise Elizabeth Gibbs Bailiff of Dowelltown died Sunday [August 21, 2011] at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She was a member of Dowelltown Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 4:00 P.M at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale and Rickey Scott will officiate with burial in Salem Cemetery. 68 year old Kenneth Randolph Hayes of McMinnville died Friday [August 5, 2011] at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. He was a retired truck driver with Airco Gas Company and a nurseryman. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. David Mahan will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Hayes was preceded in death by his parents, John Roland and Ella Jane Hayes; his wife, Doris Hayes; two sisters, Nannie Mai Easterly and Irene Hayes; and two brothers, Alton and J.C. 62 year old John Aubrey Gunter died Tuesday [August 2, 2011] at Vanderbilt Hospital from injuries sustained in a recent truck accident. He was a resident of Cannon County, a member of the Smithville Church of God, and a self-employed Heavy Equipment Operator. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Donnie Kelly will officiate and burial will follow in the Gunter-Grizzle Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m on Friday. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mildred Wright Gunter; a sister, Glenda Caldwell and a brother, Morris Gunter. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol Warren Gunter of the Short Mountain Community; Daughters, Carolyn and husband Richard Graham of Cleveland and Kristie and husband Dustin Johnson of Smithville. 84 year old Debbie Louisa Jennings of McMinnville died Thursday [July 21, 2011] at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. She was born in DeKalb County, was a retired employee of McMinnville Garment Company, and a member of Blue Springs Cove Church of Christ. Mrs. Jennings was preceded in death by parents William Daniel and Margaret France Jones, husband William Arthur Jennings, sisters Gillie Allen, Florence Humphrey, Annie Mannon, Mary Jones, Percilla Warren, Pelina Marsh, Vina Turner, and America Turner, and brothers Alec, Walter, Cephas, Tommy, Willie, Acquilla, Burgess, and Thurman (Jack) Jones.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Peggie Ann and Donald Moore of McMinnville and sisters Sue Carter of Winchester, Elsie Newby of McMinnville, and Judy Berryhill of Nashville. Grandchildren Jeff and Susan Smith, and Gail and Lee Curtis, great-grandchildren Brittany Jones, Micha Gentry, Taylor Smith, Tori Smith, Tia, Rylan, Kreed, Makinlee, Bren, and Braelee Curtis, and great-great grandchildren Emma Smith, Kylan Jones, and Kinslee Taylor.
The funeral service will be at 11 A.M., Saturday at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Gary Newby will officiate. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends Friday from 3 P.M. until 8 P.M. and again Saturday from 9 A.M. until 11 A.M. at McMinnville Funeral Home.

 Diane M. Bailiff, age 53, of Lake Odessa, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011.
She was born October 30, 1957 in Lansing the daughter of Alfred Eugene and Janet Marie (Laing) Hunter.
Diane graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1976.
She was preceded in death by her father and husband, Brian Silverthorne.
Surviving is her husband, William Baliff; daughters, Shellie Silverthorne, Nicole Silverthorne and Jamie Silverthorne; step children, Duane (Carla) Bailiff and J.J. Bailiff; six grandchildren; her mother, Janet Hunter; brother, Brian Hunter and sister, Beverly (Roy) Scott.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Koops Funeral Chapel – Lake Odessa. Funeral services for Diane will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Koops Funeral Chapel – Lake Odessa.
Services for Mrs. Shelvie Jean Underhill will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Anderson Funeral Home with the Bro. Gary Caplinger and Bro. Thurman Seber officiating. Interment will be in Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Mrs. Underhill, 72, of Alexandria, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was an interior decorator and a member of the Coopers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Vaughtie Roberts Willioughby; brother, Louie Willoughby and great-grandson, Noah Roth.
Survivors include: husband, John Underhill of Alexandria; son, James Underhill of Alexandria; daughter, Yvonne Campbell of Alexandria; grandchildren, Brian (Shelly) Campbell, Ashley (Caleb) Roth and Nicholas Underhill, all of Alexandria; great-grandchildren, Timothy Campbell and Elizabeth Roth, both of Alexandria; brother and sisters-in-law, Daphene Willoughby of Watertown, Jack (Faye) Underhill of Alexandria, Joyce (J.T.) Cook of Smithville and Patsy Adamson of Liberty, Tenn., and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Roth, Brian Campbell, Nicholas Campbell, Marvin Willoughby, Dewayne Willoughby and David Cripps.
